Watch Out

The world's greatest Poetry Bus, invented by the world's greatest blogger, Mr. Totalfeckineejit of the Lost Land of Eejit, has embarked. See the previous post for prompts. Here's the photo I chose and the poem to go with it:

Inevitability

For a moment before
I asked you what was wrong
a sensation of otherness
swept through my blood
and my hand rose to stop
the words.
Call it intuition,
that foreknowledge
of my life about to break
in half. My hand paused
midway to my mouth:
Why? Was I suddenly brave?
If so, courage deserted me
when I saw your head begin
to turn and your mouth moving.
A suitcase swam through the air
on flippers like a seal,
caught you on your forehead
and knocked you to the floor.
It swam out the open window
and I never saw it again
although I called and called

From our friend The Walking Man:

NEVER LOOK FOR LOVE

I was told as a lad that the only way to find my love
was to search for it, to suffer
until I found what was more elusive
than compassion in the soul of a greedy man.

I looked everywhere my feet could take me to
turning over every rock and boulder
until my hands were bent and curled in on themselves
from the work of finding love which always hid from me.

It is when I quit searching and said
“I quit, I will simply set my ark adrift without love
and let the current take me where it will
that I discovered love can not be found by me.
I must be found by love.

I was found floating on the easy waters movement
without oar or rudder, without ever having known love
when from the shore a figure quietly called out to me
It was my love, she swam out to my life, joining me,
saying “you my love==were worth the wait.”

A pretty song, yes. I can't think exactly how to say this, but it's nice when you think of something, like this, that reads as if it always existed - something that's just the right shape for what it is. (It goes for music, too, and probably all the arts, come to think of it).

It would look rather good in the bottom right hand corner of the picture.

I ready for the bus, Chris! Waiting at my bus stop with Georgia!

Although the Chinese do not like to talk about death or dying one of the most common phrases that they use I think is very apt and very beautiful
"going home"

I will be scrambling aboard the bus. Hoping to get a window seat, but I'm running a bit late already!

oh these are beautiful, as filled with the colors of sepia as the photo...

Your pretty song is perfect for the occasion ......... stay well.

I very much relate to The Walking Man's offering, as I do to your words, and you quoted a favorite song of mine. What great joy it is when love finds you! We know something of that in our household, as we know all too well what it is to lose someone you love. Peace to you, Chris.

Here's mine: http://danabugseyeview.blogspot.com/2010/08/poetry-bus-is-undecided.html.

Love how the Walking Man integrated both photos - well done! And it's true about love - I definitely wasn't looking when I found Dr. M!

Also, more importantly... I hope you bear your heavy baggage well and in a more healthy manner than before ;-) It sounds as if you're doing just that! Be well.

I'm here too! Craziness in my life right now, but all good. I saw the image of the boat at Dana (The Bug's blog) and it truly inspired me. Thanks, Chris!

Yours is a stunning poem. I love the open-endedness of it.

Hugs and blessings! (I'm thinking of you and have some idea of what you must be feeling. Also, I just learned of the pneumonia - I really hope you're feeling better.)

Love,

Kat

This is amazing you know I always keep coming back Chris not just because you are an amazing writer but because you also inspire me with your words and sentiments and love in each word written.

Have a peaceful Sunday.

Hi, I came over in order to see what you offered as the second picture prompt this week because the first three poems I've read all used the boat! But I've read each of your posts down to the word verification swan song and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed them; the poignant words about your mother, and the loving humour too that you managed to weave through, especially in "My Mother’s Traveling Wardrobe". I hope the pneumonia is gone and I hope you enjoy the writer's conference.

Hi oak, thanks for great driving.

Your poem is brilliant. "courage deserted me when I saw your head begin to turn and your mouth moving"
beautiful and sad.

I'm not sure I get the comments that mention a song. But I just wanted to tell you that I loved your poem "Inevitability." So good.

Enchanted Oak said...

Hello, friends, if you're confused by the references to songs and baggage, that's because I edited this post Sunday morning and deleted the stuff they refer to. The song, however, went like this:
The water is wide; I can't cross over
And neither have I wings to fly.
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I.

Great poems from you and the Walking Man.

Good golly gosh, is there any room on top? Busy bus!
Anyway, I'm here, it's the right day and I am so looking forward to the journey.

Wow to Ineveitablity - completely blind-sided me until the suitcase hit my head!
Just gonna say it: brilliant poem.
Tough re-read as well, with knowledge this time - that "although I called and called"

Fascinating poem you have there. I'm enthralled. And I want to know - did life break in half after all? did the suitcase make everyone take a hard left turn? where did it come from - the other hand? So many questions raised.

I got rather lost this week, but you'll find my ferry ticket here, just in case you'll let me on the airplane after all. http://pinkrabbitabroad.blogspot.com/
It's, er, poetic licence. Yeah.

Been away, but I'm waving-at the Bus,
last gasp while running-
Nobody can find my writing it seems
Oh well I did one anyway, thanks.

Love your photographs. Thanks for sharing them with your fellow bloggers. ;)
Gardening is such a relaxing activity, no wonder you get inspired to write your wonderful poems. I bet the landscape where you live is spectacular, another muse.
Keep those photos coming and your pen moving.
Cheers!

Great prompt, EO, and some fabulous responses. Hats off to you!

You see, this is why I'm not a proper poet at all: I'd never have thought of such a compelling image as the suitcase flying through the air with flippers. That bit really lifted your poem out of the ordinary for me.

I'm putting up a poem actually by my granddaughter!!ooops well I'd like you to have a look at it and view her blogspot. THIS IS HIGHLY IRREGULAR I hear you all say. But go on and give her some feedback if you would. Thanks for accommodating me [or not!]
