The California coastline approaching Big Sur
It Must Be Love
You glare at me as if
you could burn me to ash
with the power of your rage.
Your veins want to pop
at your temples and blood
suffuses your face.
Your hands tremble
with the force of it.
Only love could excite so much passion.
I want to hold you.
I'm heading up the beautiful, rugged California coastline to camp at Big Sur with my family today. We'll camp among the redwoods and hike the Big Sur river (which is really the size of a large creek) and the park trails this weekend.
I grew up in a camping family and have slept in campgrounds from Washington state to New Hampshire. We keep three lug boxes ready with camping gear at all times, so I consider that we're earthquake prepared too.
You won't hear from me until Monday evening. I won't have Internet or cell phone service. I won't have a blow dryer. I'll have a tablet of paper, a camp stove, and a tent... my three requirements for camping.
Maybe I'll get lucky and catch some crawdads for jambalaya one night.
In the meantime, here's a Flash 55 to remind you that love wears many faces. For more intriguing attempts to tell a tale in exactly 55 words, visit the host with most, the G-Man.

Have a great weekend, Chris.
I'd love to come down for an overnight one of these days. Do you have a bed for me?

wow, powerful flash 55.
Have a beautiful and blessed camping trip with lots of miracluous discoveries!
Have a really great time, Chris...you so deserve it, after the scare you had with your mother. That's an awesome photo, by the way, I wish I was with you. I love that stretch of the Coastline.
Great 55 and enjoy your trip.
Watch out for the poison oak, I got it last weekend up there! (and everywhere....ha!)
Oh I remember doing this journey in a "virtual" sense for the Fat Dog blog. How I would love to visit there for real.
Oh my gosh, I am going to send this to my hubby. We had a bad disagreement last week and then spent the next couple days talking about it and getting close again. This is a perfect thing for then. Enjoy your camping!!
Love this verse. It is said that such rage is the essence of passion and that only that kind of rage is embodied within a soulmate.
Have a fun camping trip.
Your 55 is so true. Rage is a passionate response. Indifference is the opposite of love. Have a great time camping.
We made a rhyme this Flash Friday...
My 55 was about a tampon
Yours was to camp on
Great 55, I loved it's fiery sensuality. Have fun camping, I'm sure it'll be a wonderful experience :)
That passion burns! Will it fuse or disintegrate, I wonder....
Pretty Steamy Chris...
Sounds like there was 'Make-Up Sex'!
Excellent 55 My Friend..
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End...G
Great photo of wonderful Big Sur. People come from all over the world to enjoy it. I hope you added "sleeping bag" to your short list of camping necessities :)
YeaH..I love camping too!
And that poem is so bang on ;)
Thank you for sharing,Enchanted.
nice fifty five and fun at Big sur been there and what a lovely place..
yes it's a true story I really hated to do what I did but then again he's been getting gas from me for quite some time now. I finally decided the only way to stop this is to step into a lower place than I like to be. So I bought five dollars of gas and then filled the rest of the can with water and placed it back in the truck with the rest of my equipment as I always did. The neighbor figured out that I filled my tanks for my gardening tools every Sunday night. He'd hit me early Monday Or Tuesday morning. I waited up at night just to see if I'd catch this guy and I finally did he thought he was slick doing what he was doing so I had to show him who was smarter than the average bear and it's going to cost him money just to clean out the gasline and the gas tank as you all know gas and water don't mix I really don't think he'll ever do it again if he does he's more of an idiot than I thought.
thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.Larry This Blog Of Mine
Chris, Your "55" had a VERY intriguing effect on me. What a neat way to "see" a passionate disagreement.
They used to say Peeps who "hate" God really know him, are really CLOSE to God. More-so than some who claim to be so goodie-goodie.
Ah, yeah, just a little sick.
I like your twist, I didn't see that coming...nice! :))
Chris, have a great time. I think Big Sur is a God place. I think that I have known that love.
Sleeping outdoors surrounded by nothing but clean fresh air is the best thing ever! Have fun! - G
Passion yes...thin line between love and hate. Enjoy your camping trip!! Sounds wonderful.
Yes, it must be love if you can look at his anger and understand it's passion and it is love. I wish that I had that. Again, your post does not leave me unsastified. I am amazed by your gift of words.
Redwoods and a river? I hope to see some photos when you get back. ;) Enjoy this blessed opportunity to recharge. Cheers.
I am envious of your camping trip. I long to see the redwoods of northern California. Someday!
be well!
Hope you had a great time camping! I'm hoping to do a little camping in VT this summer myself. :-)
I love camping too. Used to do it all the time....
Great poem with a killer ending.
"I want to hold you."
What a way to soothe the popping veins.
