Hope Keeps Me Alive

The Eejit’s Poetry Bus hits the road again. We were told by our Bus driver, Don’t Feed the Pixies, to go somewhere and look at signs. Let the sign spark the lines. So I went somewhere and looked at a sign.

Okay, I went into my own front yard and looked at a garden sign I made last year. Call me unadventurous. People who went more interesting places can be found here.

I have a BIG thing about HOPE. Maybe that’s because I’m a three-time suicide survivor. Four, if you count the night I drove drunkenly and fast along the whole winding length of Malibu Canyon, daring God to make me wreck. I take the survival part as a SIGN that I should keep on living.

Here’s my poem about HOPE.

The Life Cycle in Four-Letter Words

HOPE!
LOVE!
LOSE…
PAIN!
WEEP.

SIGH…
PRAY.
HOPE!
LIVE.
LOVE!

All right. It’s never going to make it into an anthology. We can't be brilliant all the time.

It looks OK to me - and it says all of the right things.

Of course it's the intro that fascinates those of us who hardly know you. My Dad killed himself (successfully) when I was a kid...and so, like it or not, I can never help but be interested in the subject.
Love indeed.

I go with Alan, but your comment at the bottom does the old heart good all the same. There's hope for us all.
And as for the poem, the more you read it, the more it works, become a mantra almost.

It took me a while to work on my piece about signs- (But I have not figured out about links.)
Hopefully my stopping here will
allow for a connection.
I like Hope !

Hi Chris,

Alan's right, and I think any who make it into recovery have a right to hope, live and love. I like that sign, too!

Hope is such an important part of a QUALITY life - I like this poem that emphasized that it really does exist.

I like your poem! I think it would make a pretty cool bookmark too.
I'm curious about your garden sign. What is is made out of? It makes me want to run my hand over my computer screen and feel the bumps and ridges in the letters. - G

Dave hit the nail on the head, mantra.Keep it close. We can live without people, without money, without a home, almost without anything (hard as all those things are) but the one thing we cannot live without is HOPE.I love your garden sign and I wish you overwhelming HOPE.

We must live before we can love again. Very nice, Chris. I for one am glad you're still here and sharing your world with us.

I love the sign (what is that stuck on to make the letters - seeds?)
And I'm with Dave and TFE - it does have a manta-esque quality, and says all it needs to say. What more can you ask of a poem than that?

My friend who killed herself had lost hope, no longer believed in a Higher Power. I am glad that I have hope and haven't given up on life. Very simple but beautiful words.
