On a Cheerful Note

Crazy Thinking but True

I smoke but I won’t use NSAIDS.
What I discovered about Indocin scared me half to death.
The same warnings come with Advil.
Death by sudden heart attack. Perforated GI tract,
resulting in death. Stroke without symptoms.

I smoke my morning cigarette, sipping my coffee,
remembering the dire warnings on ibuprophen.
In, out goes the smoke through my lungs.
I am appalled that my favorite pain killer could be a killer.
How many times have I popped four in my mouth
and swallowed them with my coffee, looking for relief,
ignorant of the deadly forces at work as they wend
their way through my precious, imperfect body,

How many thousands of mini death machines have I downed
in search of sweet relief. Look up “ibuprophen” sometime.
It will scare you silly. They masquerade as medical friends when in fact
they are time bombs. I can take umbrage with NSAIDS
while smoking because my cigarette does not masquerade
as anything, and I like my poison straightforward.

Scary stuff!

I guess that's true as long as while you're smoking, you're not "masquerading" that cigarette as comfort and relaxation but just enjoying it as the poison it is. :)

You get to decide how you like your poison! Smile. We should go back to the days of herbs and natural remedies. The meds are so scary.

I'm glad I never picked up the addiction of smoking, seems so hard to quit it...I was able to smoke here and there and not continue. Even with pot, I stopped long ago but still kept the pretty pipes...

I don't take many medicines. And am thankful that I didn't smoke. I tried when I was 5 years old and my father caught me after several weeks. I had learned to blow smoke rings though! But after he caught me and I was punished, I stopped.

yikes...everything has danger danger danger - it's like living in a minefield. Chemicals in the vegies...mosquitos bring disease...etc. etc...somedays...I just want to bury my head and not look or hear the warnings. Stay strong Chris...I think you are totally cool.

I was a little worried about the ibroprophren recently too, especially on days when I was taking the maximum dose. I guess the other side to that though is that I don't take Advil every day. I only use it "as needed", whereas I think most cigarette smokers tend to be addicted and inhale a higher dose of that poison.
Also, that smoke doesn't just poison you. It poisons anyone who might be around you, or who gets near enough to you to smell the smoke in your clothes.
I'm all about the freedom to choose though, so go for it. Just don't expect me to sit next to you on the bus if I can help it. :-)

I do not know what a NSAID is, though I could look it up. Too late. I have stopped smoking--not bragging. Actually, I want to be able to take one final BIG breath just before I drink down my chalice of hemlock...
