Sweet Peas

Your Gift To Me

The first sweet peas of the season
spring up around the garden gate
white as the half moon
and blushing pink as the dusk
that falls on them like a soft cloak.

A trinity of dusk, moon, and sweet peas
unite in a small bouquet
I present to you, husband
and you pause in your evening chores
to bend and breathe deeply
the fragrance of sweet peas.

Your smile is like the half moon
in a dusky sky.
This is the only essential thing
that has happened all day.
It slides safely into the pocket of my memory
for pondering in leaner times.

Theme Thursday this week is "pink."

And here I was thinking that Sweet Pea was a character in Popeye!

Lovely -- I felt as if I was there smelling that sweet fragrance.

Here we are in autumna with rains and piles of dead leaves. Lovely too but in a different way.

Beautiful thoughts --- and I love how it ends with "pondering in leaner times" a great thing in which to have to ponder on.

I remember sweet peas from my childhood in southern CA. Just this color too. Nice photo.
I like your words "blushing pink".
The bouquet you describe is lovely.
Yes, savor this moment and bring this memory out often.

Really nice. I react the same way to the smell of our lavender and lilly-of-the-valley. It's so wonderful this time of year.

Wait. What? said...

Beautifully written. It has left me wanting to take a walk in a beautiful garden.

A present to your husband. That is really nice. I like the statement about the pocket of memory too. How true that is.
