Enough Is Enough

Enough: as much as is needed.

I poked fun at Walt Whitman the other day for being, um, excessively excessive. But then I ran across this bit of his, and it struck me as a perfect example of a thankful heart:

"I have perceive’d that to be with those I like

is enough.

To stop in company with the rest at evening

is enough.

To be surrounded by beautiful, curious, breathing, laughing flesh,

is enough."

May your Thanksgiving be blessed.

A nice balance of striking seasonal pics and the great man's words.

You construct something quite beautiful from words and images - something that is greater than the sum of its parts.

I am reminded of

A Pact

I make a pact with you, Walt Whitman -
I have detested you long enough.
I come to you as a grown child
Who has had a pig-headed father;
I am old enough now to make friends.
It was you that broke the new wood,
Now is a time for carving.
We have one sap and one root -
Let there be commerce between us.

Uhhh This is from "The Body Electric" contained in Leaves of Grass and has bout 150-200 more lines and is a poem of abolitionism and the equality of men and women no matter their condition. Certainly a forward thinking man and poet.

I love old Walt but rarely is he as brief as presented.

Have a good Day of whatever you do on days like this Just Chris.

uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh! WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAATttt? That was poking fun at the sacred Whitman? What in the freaken world? I just clicked back over to my old site today where I posted his Body Electric, which was a revelation for me, holy holy Whitman, and I was bowled over once again. Ha! I laugh. Excessive. As I am sometimes. As we all are sometimes.

I daresay he was skeletal and right in his thankfulness.

Big and warm wishes to you on this holiday, Chris.

I have enough and then some. The pictures make me want to just stop and ponder all that is good in the world today. May your holiday be full and enough..

Those words were just enough

Your pics were perfect

Happy Thanksgiving (belated)

Loved your black friday story - too true people spend what they have for things they dont need and they stand in outrageous lines

The photography really was special, Chris, and made Walt's poetry more special. I hope Thanksgiving was not too difficult, having so recently lost your mother.
